I know I'm supposed to be polite about the Tea Party, but when the first speaker is a Republican Congressman who is now out of office, and the most newsworthy speaker is the former Republican vice presidential nominee, well, why are they not Republicans? Why isn't this being covered as a Republican splinter group?

I'm not sure why it took this long.
"Everyone in the Senate would like to see Scott Brown seated as quickly as possible, because he was elected by the people of Massachusetts to represent them and his vote counts," said Senator Orrin G. Hatch, Republican of Utah. "When we consider a potential vote on a controversial nominee like Craig Becker, Scott Brown could be the deciding vote."
Craig Becker is "controversial" because ...
Becker has further inflamed Republicans because he is prolabor.

The job? The National Labor Relations Board. Imagine, a prolabor person on that. What is this country coming to? Can't everything be done by CEOs?

According to NPR, Blanche Lincoln, Democrat, thinks the prisoners at Gitmo should get military trials, not civilian trials.
Her rationale is that they are "prisoners of war," according to the report.
I'm confused. But Justice, at least, is defending the trial process. We'll see.

One of my favorite points the president made was his defense of American institutions, which he said are full of honorable people doing their best. He specifically mentioned the media, businesses, and the government.
It's the sort of obvious point that's easy to forget when we're running around like chickens with our heads cut off. We could use a kindness bounce.

And still both sick and way busy, which explains the light blogging.
I hope the president has a big night tomorrow.

So the president is going to propose a spending freeze.
I'm not sure what that means.

OK, so it should be a simple matter to fix the healthcare bill. The GOP has sworn an oath to kill it, but the Democratic caucus can't possibly run on getting nothing done when we had both houses of Congress and the White House, so have a quick conference, reopen discussion on some small items, and expand the exemption labor got on the "Cadillac tax" to cover everyone.
The GOP will say, "We didn't have a place at the table."
We will say, "Why give you a place at the table when your stated goal was to destroy the bill and the president? We took our stand, and here is why: because it was what was best for the American people. We stood up to one of our key constituencies and acted boldly. We are prepared to defend this bill."
Far too simple to actually happen.

CAIRO (AP) - Osama bin Laden claimed responsibility for the failed attempt to bomb a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas in a new audio message released Sunday threatening more attacks on the United States.
(snip)
"They offer strategic guidance and rely on their affiliates to carry out that strategic guidance," State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said in an interview.
"He (bin Laden) is trying to continue to appear relevant," he said.
How long before Peter King says he believes him?

Via Blue Mass Group.
If I run as an independent, that would be more representative of the frustration expressed in Tuesday's vote, but I cannot fix the government by myself. If I run as a Democrat, that would allow me to combat the broken structure, with the help of the many folks already in state government who are dedicated to serving the people. Many Democratic friends have urged me to throw my hat in the ring, but so have my Republican, Green and unenrolled friends. The decision I and my team make will be based on how I can best serve all of the people of the Commonwealth.
If she's serious, there would mean FIVE official candidates: Deval, Charlie Baker, Tim Cahill, Christy Mihos, and Ross.
Four challengers when a governor is seeking reelection is ... notable.
